If you pay Shelby County's , here's where the new Regional One hospital stands. CEO Dr. Reginald Coopwood says the $900 million project is not on hold, but the money isn't all there yet.

Regional One's new hospital still needs money

that Shelby County has committed, around
2030 or 2031
for completion, if funding is secured

That leaves about $400 to $450 million. Regional One hopes to raise it from local and national foundations, and it plans to ask the state for support too. Coopwood said it wouldn't be responsible to start buying steel until the rest of the funding is lined up.

“We never intended for Shelby County to pay the whole amount,”

He points to aging infrastructure and growing demand for emergency and trauma care. The Daily Memphian reported on Oct. 26 that work was continuing to clear land at 495 Union Ave., the old Commercial Appeal site, for what could be a new hospital.
