About this event
Based on the Student Experience, this class will be either Primary Series or Mixed Series. Ashtanga Led Yoga is a system of yoga passed down by Krishnamacharya to his student Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, who taught with his family in Mysore India and around the world for over 70 years. It is a traditional system of Yoga based on 3 main sequences of yoga postures and is practiced by thousands of people around the world. Ashtanga yoga when practiced correctly builds internal and external heat which helps in stretching and detoxifying the body. After practice, students can expect to have the feeling of a good "work out" with the added benefits of calmness, lightness and extra energy. In the Ashtanga Led class, students will be guided through the practice using breath, bandhas and drishti to move in and out of Sun Salutations, standing postures, seated postures and inversions. It is the perfect practice for students of all ages and of every fitness level. Modifications offered and encouraged. Astanga Yoga Primary Series: This class is called Yoga Chikitsa (roughly translated as yoga therapy). The first half consists of many forward folding postures and twists and is considered the basis for good health. The second half contains several hip opening postures. Ashtanga Yoga Mixed Series:This class contains both the First & Second Series. We'll explore postures from the first half of the First Series (Primary Series) and move into the Second Series (Intermediate Series), which is called Nadi Shodana (roughly translated as nerve cleansing). It consists of a variety of back bending postures to awaken the spinal column. It also continues to encourage flexibility as well as introducing strength postures.
